Electronic Arts appears to have chosen their favourite football/soccer team. Today EA Sports announced that exclusive Manchester City FC content will feature in this year’s FIFA game.
The biggest Manchester City only feature is the use of 360 degree head scan shots of the club’s squad. This will presumably make the recreation of the Manchester City team in FIFA 12 the most realistic of them all.
Special dedicated content will also be distributed from the club themselves as well as via EA Sports channels.
Nick Harford, EA Sports’ Football Business Lead, said on the collaboration:
“We are delighted to be entering into a dynamic new partnership with Manchester City. Through this agreement, EA Sports will invest in the creation of bespoke content and experiences that bring Manchester City fans across the globe closer to the team they love.”
While Manchester City fans should be delighted by the news, it will no doubt aggrieve other football/soccer fans, leaving them asking why their team has not been given the royal treatment either.

They wont fit the Man City players heads into the game. This is an ego joke if you dont get it… Surely this is more of a “City paid EA” rather than “EA chose City” incident isnt it?
Bankzy108
Exactly. Manchester City will have paid EA. If you ask me, I say what a waste of money as there is nothing wrong with how it is now. Most people won’t even be that bothered – I doubt even City fans will be that bothered either.
fattyuk
Well said bankzy! I think there trying to cash in on s Market that couldn’t care less really! What do the Arabs think exactly? just cause they invest some money into a video game, that has soent years to get where it is…. That there just gonna make loads of money from it??? Pfffft yer good luck!
Waits for the ” FIFA Manchester city exclusive football game” – sells 2,000 on release straight in the bargain bin cost the Arabs £50 million
DJ Judas
You’d be surprised, City are buying mind real estate from EA in the many people who play the game but don’t necessarily have a side that they religiously follow.
City are setting themselves up to be the biggest team in the world 10 years from now. The massive new training academy they’ve announced, the headlines they grab whenever they buy or sell a player and buying this sort of exposure from EA is setting them up to be the most desirable team of the future, not necessarily in the UK, but the millions of potential customers they can sell merchandise to.
fattyuk
Your right buts it football they need to prove themselves! EVERY single world class team has got a real history, decades, players, fans. What have man city got 2 years of spending money? and then potentially 10 years of spending money…., Chelsea have done this and it hasn’t gone very far! As a liverpool fan with dalglish as manager that’s got real history of a club…. Not just throwing cash about…. That’s why footballs interesting it’s about history not money!
m61726b
It’s ironic a Liverpool talking about history when history was the last time they were consistently successful.
fattyuk
Compared to who are you talking about?
what makes a great football team is the history!? Do you not agree as a football fan?
Or is it the money?
fattyuk
Oh and obviously the nowadays team! ?Barcelona IMO are the best team ever to step on this world!
m61726b
History isn’t about success. It’s about the journey. Being a City fan, I’ve been to the bottom and back and had a right laugh. If we starting winning, then great but don’t for moment think City don’t have history. United and Liverpool wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for their City rivals. Now that’s a history lesson for you.
fattyuk
OK your right every team has a history a d yes you’ve been to the bottom and errrmmmm back up the table? there trying to throw money around like there a successful world renowned team who everybody wants to watch, but realistically there not!
fattyuk
“It’s ironic a Liverpool talking about history when history was the last time they were consistently successful.”
“History isn’t about success it’s about the journey”
And liverpools history is bout the success and the journey, look at the past 6 months we’ve gone down the road of the journey with the history of the success, dalglish for a starters… And when it comes to players gerrard and carragher full blow Liverpool through and through out! every big team has had the heart and soul of the club through certain players! Chelsea, arsenal, man utd, west ham!local teams foreign teams, 5 a side teams etc etc. WHOS MAN CITY GOT? whos there heart and soul players? what man city players have dedicated there life to the club??
m61726b
The brand has to start with throwing money at it. It does sometimes seem obscene but they are doing in 2/3 years what United did in ten before the advent of the Premier League.
m61726b
Richards, Onuoha, Wright-Phillips, Boyata, Cunningham, Joe Hart.
Maybe the Liverpool success comment was contradictory but it was a sly dig. No harm intended.
StevenHibs
Now if you know your history, then Hibernian has a great history and loads of Firsts in British football! Hail Hail
donotfeedthebears1690
Hibs??? really
StevenHibs
Yep Hibs, first British club in europe!
fattyuk
Yeah you’re right.
Throw money at it …….
:|
m61726b
You fail to get the point. They have to 1) to catch up. 2) build a brand. 3) to earn it back they have to spend sqillions.
fattyuk
Yeah I get ya, speak to you when man city has become a successful club until that day.
GOOD LUCK
Night,
threelions_66
City are building a history right now, I find it fascinating, I just wish their English players would get more game time
m61726b
I’m with you on that threelions_66. Would be good for the national team too.
Roynaldo
I would only urge you to decipher whether City are purchasing history rather than building by the widely understood format.
Do you see building as a billion dollar splurge on transfers + wages + things like this article or building by progression to the top?
Building to me starts with foundation, then roots then brick by brick, layer by layer until you hit the roof of capability. Then you go back and edit out anything that doesnt quite fit to maintain and/or enhance the structure.
m61726b
@Mr_Roynaldo
We both know we will never have a constructive debate about this. However, City were building from the Academy with Pierce and then we got bought out by a skint billionaire. Taskin then nearly killed the club and we got lucky with the Arabs buying him out.
That’s all.
threelions_66
Other than Utd, when was the last time a club was truly successful by building slowly? Villa tried it and it seems to have fallen apart, Tottenham have spent plenty, Arsenal can’t be considered successful, Liverpool failed. I suppose Everton are closest but they keep yo-yoing up and down the league. I hate to say it but spending big is the only way to build success
metamorph
@threelions_66: How much money did Arsenal spend in their Invincibles season in 2003/04, when they stormed to the title unbeaten in a feat no other team has ever accomplished. I’d take a win like that over Chelsea’s or Man City’s wins any day, any year.
metamorph
Ah, don’t bother, I’ll save you the sums:
Jens Lehmann:£1.25m
Lauren: £7.2m
Sol Campbell: free
Kolo Toure: £150,000
Ashley Cole: free
Freddy Ljungberg: £3m
Patrick Vieira: £3.5m
Gilberto Silva: £4.5m
Robert Pires: £6m
Dennis Bergkamp: £7.5m
Thierry Henry: £11m
———————
Total: £44.10
Now, how much did they spend on Fernando Torres, again?
MadJunkBoy
ahhh, wonderful times that=)
dont think any team will do that in a long time!
and @threelions: how the hell can u say that Arsenal can’t be concidered successful??
m61726b
WOOHOO!
StevenHibs
They need to get the finances in check haha
blackredyellow
Oh good, another reason to dislike Man City.
m61726b
Hopefully this could a revenue stream for more clubs. After all City et al don’t have a subscription TV channel.
fattyuk
WOW
Sorry but man city can throw there money around as much as they like! FIFA isn’t exactly gonna sell more copy’s just because of a little man city exclusive content.
As a liverpool fan no I’m not gonna throw my arms up and ask why haven’t we got exclusive content I couldn’t care less it’s a football game! We’ve got the history the fans the fun and the support as all football clubs all round the world has!
Anyways gonna crack on LFC tv now…..
m61726b
Is LFC TV still going? I thought they showed Liverpool highlights on UK Gold!
beeje13
Most watched UK club channel, going very strong!
Possibly because its subscription free now….
fattyuk
LOL
As a Liverpool fan over the past few weeks it been really really good with new shows and loads of buildup to this season, all the games in china. Its been really good!
threelions_66
I think that’s repeats of Bread you’ve been watching
fattyuk
What a great response o_O
GamingBlueBoy
Lol
H3O
And…. 5 people care. Max.
Foxhound
Lol….
threelions_66
I like the sound of this, it’s not something that will be a massive selling point but I think it has potential. Hopefully it’s something they will expand it to other clubs, I for one would love to see a full 360 degree scan of Joel Lynch’s massive head.
fattyuk
“will be a massive selling point”
In which Market exactly? Any football fan who likes gaming is already a FIFA fan, justb because man city pump abit of money into the game what’s gonna happen? An influx in sales, doubt it!
Surely man city should concentrate on football and building the history and then do this sort of thing?
look at all the great clubs around the world they haven’t had to go down this media stunt road!?
What have man city done….. Spent 100s of millions and won the fa cup….. WOW let’s get exclusive FIFA content!!
fattyuk
I APOLOGIZE HAD A FEW BEERS DIDN’T READ YOU’RE POST PROPERLY! IGNORE ME LOL
threelions_66
“its not something that will be a massive selling point”
FIFA is one of the most successful franchises in video game history selling millions of copies over the years. If Man City want to have that association in order to improve their brand and increase their popularity throughout the world, what harm is it doing?
Also if it leads to a better more in depth game, whats there to complain about?
why does everyone only see the negative when it comes to Man City?
threelions_66
no worries youth
fattyuk
“If Man City want to have that association in order to improve their brand and increase their popularity throughout the world, what harm is it doing?”
It’s a sport it’s football…. They have to be good at the sport and prove there worthiness … It’s not coca cola trying to sell drinks, or greggs trying to sell sausage rolls. Man city cant increase popularity unless their good at what they do lol are you living in the clouds!?
fattyuk
A diviosion 2 team could do this if they had the money! But it wouldn’t exactly bring fans in if they don’t win anything or are entertaining!!
a inferior race
Does anyone else remember the Glacticos. I don’t think they ever won th Champions League but everyone wanted to see them.
fattyuk
Not for world domination their not.
Ryan1991
We always ignore so don’t worry about it.
threelions_66
Its also a business nowadays so there is a commercial aspect they have to take into account. Man City won a cup and qualified for Champions league, they are moving in the right direction.
beeje13
Im guessing their ground will be in it aswell, is it still Eastlands or the Etihad arena now?
m61726b
The Council Ground is my favourite.
fattyuk
I think it’s etihad as there slapping there logo on everything to do with man city.
It probalay won’t even be called FIFA 12 it will be ETIHAD 1
Kovacs
“they’re” slapping “their” logo.
I’m sorry, fatty, but you are MURDERING the English language tonight. Cold blooded MURDER!
:)
Sympozium
its ok many words have been murderred by me.
Guyers94
It’s the Etihad Arena now since the absolute scam of a marketing deal they made designed to ridicule FIFA’s new financial fair play rules, which were trying to stop clubs like City pricing everyone out of the Transfer Market.
In case you hadn’t noticed I hate Man City and everything they’ve done over the past couple of years. As a Liverpool fan I think we’ve been a bit ridiculous with our spending this summer to say the least, but we’re twice the club City will ever be. Give me United over City any day and that means a lot coming from a Liverpool fan
m61726b
You can blame City AND the rest of the top 4. That’s United, Chelsea and Arsenal for inflating transfer fees.
As for the stadium sponsorship deal, nothing stopping anyone doing it.
fattyuk
Arsenal?? Top 4? When did they last win a trophy?
colmshan1990
Liverpool seem to be the worst for inflating transfer fees.
The Andy Carroll transfer fee was laughable.
m61726b
They finished in the top 4. True, they haven’t won anything for 5 years but still had European football every season.
What are you going to do with your Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights now?
threelions_66
Andy Carroll will score more goals than any other Englishman this season and he will be close to the Golden boot
Guyers94
Liverpool Man United and Arsenal to a lesser extent have brilliant histories behind them. Say what you like but they earned their international fanbase through playing football, the money came as a result of that.
Man City and Chelsea on the other hand had absolutely no history, so just decide to get bought out by a multi-billionaire (A law-breaking poverty-causing billionaire) in Chelsea’s case) and literally buy success. It could be argued that it’s the only way of doing it these days but for City to start saying they’re one of the biggest English clubs is laughable. They’re just a rich Arab’s plaything.
And the Etihad deal is an absolute farce purely there to break the new rules.
m61726b
As in reply to fattyuk:
“History isn’t about success. It’s about the journey. Being a City fan, I’ve been to the bottom and back and had a right laugh. If we starting winning, then great but don’t for moment think City don’t have history. United and Liverpool wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for their City rivals. Now that’s a history lesson for you.”
Chelsea have had a similar pattern of drought as City. We have both been lucky to get a rich owner but that has nothing to do with both clubs being over 100 years old.
fattyuk
“What are you going to do with your Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights now?”
Not waste my money time or effort, and the club won’t have to waste time effort and money on a 2nd rate European cup?
fattyuk
Oh yeah I’ll be spending this nights enjoying my champions league football regardless of if my team is involved or not!
m61726b
@Guyers94
Liverpool fans can blame their club and themselves about naming rights. They both would never stand for it. It’s easy money. Do it and they could probably get the money they need build a new stadium.
fattyuk
yeah we could… Best thing is our stadium would still be callied anfield, not some sponsors name that realistically doesn’t have anything to do with the club.
Could realistically see this:
Man city’s etihad ea sports qatar airlines stadium which is now situated in dubai not Manchester, England. 10 year plan maybe?
m61726b
I thought you’d given up? Your in the realms of fantasy now.
And you proved my point. Keeping the Anfield name is great for Liverpool fans but it lost revenue.
Roynaldo
oh dear. What a clusterfuck of…well…..stuff.
Lets go all Benitez on yo asses and deal with facts shall we?
First off is overpricing of players. Sure United went out and bought Rooney and Ferdy for £30m+ but look at what that money has achieved! In the mean time we bought Ronaldo for £12m, Hernandez for £6m amd Nani for £17m….but also had bad apples with Veron, Hargreaves and Forlan.
You then look at the first English club to get a billionaire and they go and get Shevchenko for £30m+ with barely a goal in sight and Torres for £50m with even less!
This is not to mention that every player eclipses 95% of players with wages, which are in turn eclipsed by City in the current climate.
Its a money game now and even United who have won so much in the last 20 years cant keep up with. You see United and Arsenal not only play football well but they run a business. If City or Chelsea were under normal business circumstances they would be have been liquidized so fast it would have been renamed steamed!
m61726b
True it’s a badly run business but it has only had to balance the books because UEFA burst into tears and had a tantrum. After all, as is leveled at City all the time, we’re a billionaires plaything.
Even as a plaything, there is only one share holders with tonnes of cash so the Clubs finances were his only to worry about.
e8
Good way for fifa, to alienate/segregate their fanbase. Look kind of weird, playing against a team of regular sprite faces.
e8
comment regarding, 360 degree head scans only.
