Halo 4 Locked For Xbox 360

Halo 4 was announced during Microsoft’s E3 conference (well, about 2 hours before thanks to an early slip up on the Xbox website) but many have speculated that the beginning of the new trilogy will kick off on the next Xbox console.

That’s all been dashed this weekend, though, with the official word being that the game will be released for 360, despite mounting rumours of a successor to the console.

343 Industry’s Frank O’Connor locked down the platform on NeoGAF on Saturday. “Halo 4 will be on Xbox 360,” he said, “and use a modified core of the Halo engine(s). Not really a singular engine since it goes through fairly radical evolutions all the time.”

You can read about the game’s official announcement here.

  1. Could it not be on both?

    • Well, he didn’t say it wouldn’t be on the neXtbox…
I expect all current Halo games (except Wars) to be ported and remastered for next-gen anyway so it probably will make it there at some point in a collection of sorts.

    • Like Nintendo did with Zelda: Twilight Princess? Possible but I’d say pretty unlikely. However, a new Halo game should always be part of the launch lineup of any new Microsoft console just to boost sales. It’s make me think about purchasing one… ^^

    • yawn, another tired rehash. I’m sure American fanboys will camp out however and turn a blind eye to all of it’s inadequacies. Much like COD MW3….

  2. Makes sense, the 360 has a massive userbase which means more sales. And since this is the beginning of a new trilogy, we can expect the sequel to be next gen so those that want to continue the story has to buy the new Xbox, kind of like last time.

    • Yeah, that would make sense, kind of sucks breaking up a trilogy between two consoles though… :/

    • Good theory and a nice supporting argument – I’m convinced!

  3. Quite surprised about this but yeah, what Kenny said makes sense.

  4. We already knew this. It said on Xbox 360 since it was shown. It didn’t say XBOX but said XBOX360.
