Bethesda have tonight explained why Dawnguard, the first major expansion to Skyrim, hasn’t yet been released for the PlayStation 3 despite the Microsoft embargo being up.
“We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3,” says the blog. “We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse.”
“We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality.”
Dawnguard released on Xbox 360 last month, and is available from Steam from today.

Can’t wait til I’m unemployed again at the end of next week :D

I was supposed to be also unemployed at the end of this week and was looking forward to a nice long gaming session that week, but not anymore lol.

Pity they didn’t take the same stance with the main game.

>.> not sure of they’re serious about this “We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3,”… really? Is it THAT bad that even Bethesda thinks it’s bad…wow. It must really be a turd for that to happen, considering they released the game it such a poor state.
Well here’s hoping when they release it that it won’t be a disaster.

but they give the 360 users a beta going right of this studio.

Bethesda always seem to have difficulties making their games run smoothly on PS3 and even more difficulty when it comes to the DLC for those games. Let’s hope they get on better with the next generation of Playstation as they make some wonderfully immersive games despite the issues.

So you’d think production on ps3 games/dlc, would start earlier, regardless of microsofts’ wallet. It’s not like this situation just suddenly came out of the blue.

that actually sounds really really bad – the ps3 has been around for quite awhile you would think they would have figured out how to properly write code for it instead of thinking a piss port would suit the ps3 well
having said that Bethesda Elder Scrolls games ran poorly on xbox (remember Morrowind), Oblivion had issues on the 360 as did Fallout3, can’t speak for Fallout New Vegas as I only played it on the ps3 – but lag issues affect both – trying to remember everything you’ve looted or killed is nice but obviously the memory is beyond what consoles can handle
maybe it’s a blessing Dawnguard isn’t suppose to be that great doesn’t stop me from wanting to play it though

lol, erm…. the PC version is broken I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo16JgLO1IU&feature=g-all-u

And yet, they released Skyrim knowing full well that it was buggy. The PS3 version is generally regarded as the worst version. Knowing how Bugthesda, they will fix the bugs but cause a ton of new bugs in the main game. I would like to hear the reason for patch 1.6 being canned.

Good ol’ Bethesda. The PS3 has been out for years and is likely to become dead tech very soon and yet they STILL haven’t grasped the concept of making games for it.

I’d like to see Naughty dog kick down their door, push them off their computers, sit down and say with a smirk, “We’ll take it from here”

lol :D

I actually think this is a wise decision from them. The DLC for the Fallout games ran very poorly, so it looked like they have learned a little from that scandal. Yeah when Skyrim was launched to PS3, it was buggy as hell, but what I’m hearing is the latest patches has improved the game a lot, specially if you start from a new game. They should have waited and fixed the game, so it wasn’t buggy at launch, but delaying the PS3 version or all of them would have caused an uproar also.
I got an unopened copy of Skyrim on my desk for PS3, which I bought recently, but decided to wait for the 1.6 patch, which now looks to be a 1.7 or a 1.8 patch, because it needs more work. It’s not a perfect situation and I really wants to play it, but thankfully other games keep me busy, so I can wait for a proper patch :)

Wish i had your patience. Given what a cock up they made of Fallout 3 and NV I knew that Skyrim was going to be a buggy mess on day-one but I still ended up buying it straight away!
Turns out that was a duff decision as the countless bugs eventually corrupted my 40hour save. Never playing a Bethesda game on ps3 again. I shouldnt have much problem sticking to that claim given I recently sold my PS3 lol :P
