It’s been a few rough weeks for the poor sods who have to face the public over on the PS Blog. Repeated delays to PSN Store content in Europe have been met with reactions ranging from resigned apathy to vitriolic verbal attacks to ridiculous cry-baby whining.

Where the emotion comes from is quite understandable, of course: there’s been a number of things that appear to have gone quite wrong, from a consumer’s perspective. It’s certainly not the fault of the guys responding to comments on the blog but then, who else do disgruntled consumers have to complain to?

Anyway, now we’ve mentioned that nastiness, we can sit ourselves defiantly on the cloud and admire the silver lining.

PlayStation Plus is updating today and, in celebration, there’s a 25 per cent discount on the yearly subscription. This takes an already amazing value package and makes it cheaper. I like to imagine that some mischievous soul replaced the bottled water with vodka at the PlayStation Plus policy meeting and, by the end of it, we were all their “besht mates” and they wanted to buy us another round. Seriously, it’s £29.99 for a year of free games, discounts and early beta access. Get it.

Elsewhere on the Store, there’s the new freebie for Vita that makes going places fun: Treasure Park. We’re also getting PS3 and Vita versions of Zen Pinball 2, along with its PopCap-sanctioned Plants Vs Zombies table (where’s my Peggle table, guys?). There’s also the arrival of the Metal Gear Solid HD games as individual purchases for £11.99 each.

    • yeah I’ve swapped it out. There was a whole paragraph dedicated to it as well…

      • I like how the edited the date out of the PS+ post to pretend it was never meant for today. Instead of, y’know, apologising and explaining.

      • It’s exactly this kind of behaviour that pisses people off. Unheard of.

    • That’s pretty poor. Any idea what’s caused the delay? That’s a real shame, although I guess my PvZ Pinball table will get some attention!

    • Doesn’t the ps+ stuff normally come on the thurs? I think it did last time.
      Shame if it’s really delayed longer though.

  3. Very annoyed with the lack of The Walking dead, SCEE need to sort themselves out pronto. Why is it they get everything else in on time, but not CS and The Walking dead?! There’s no rational excuse I can think of, because localisation is down to the developers, Sony just upload it to the store! Anger should definitely be directed away from the blog moderators though.

  5. Zen Pinball 2 is free?!!

    Ah, I see, it’s free, but then you have to pay for tables. Wonder how long until this becomes the norm, like it has with a lot of iphone apps?

    • If you already own any Zen Pinball or Marvel Pinball tables they just need importing into ZP2 though. At least they’re not making you buy them again (like Tiger Woods dlc courses).

    • I would personally say Netflix is better.

      • Agreed. Netflix generally has a better selection; may I recommend ‘Arrested development’, ‘It’s always sunny in Philadelphia’ and ‘Breaking Bad’.

    • in the UK? Probably 6 of one and half a dozen of the other between the two. Using the trick to get Netflix US content? Netflix is about a thousand times better.

      Lovefilm streaming quality was never very good, Netflix is HD. But then Lovefilm has more content providers nailed down so their catalogue should be bigger and more up to date by now (it was dreadful when I was a subscriber).

      Also, beware of how awkward Lovefilm is to get away from. It took me 15 minutes of just saying “no, cancel the subscription immediately” over and over again before the pressure salesman finally gave up trying to talk me out of hating the sub-SD stream quality and shit catalogue.

      • Oh my yes, I was shocked to find out you couldn’t just cancel with a button-press like Netflix. It was a pretty awful selection when I was subscribed, too…
        I tried to use a VPN to get the US Netflix but my bandwidth isn’t big enough :(

    • I use Lovefilm but that’s because I like having physical dvds. But I have heard from several friends that Netflix is better.

      • The trial isn’t limited but you need to check out playmo.tv to get access to some US DNS servers that will grant access to the US library which is 200% better then the UK.

      • Yo thanks for that so much better than the UK now what if when it comes to payment does it charge me in pounds

      • Yeah as long as you begin your subscription in the UK, you pay as someone from the UK and the one payment lets you use the service worldwide on the same account. If only you could do the same with PSN!

  7. I’m so confused – the MGS collection has been out for a couple of months on Vita already…
    Is Red Dead out on PS+ yet?

    • The MGS games are available to buy individually though, for the first time today ;)

  8. Son of a… MGS HD is roughly the same price in total as the physical copy. But i refuse to download anything that is more then 2GB to save space and to use less bandwith. Also it is a bit odd that they left out Peace Walker and then sell it as a pack of 3 for £25 as they normally do.
