Call of Duty: Ghosts Will Have Dedicated Servers On All Platforms

Although Activision confirmed that the Xbox One and PC versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts would feature dedicated servers, to prevent issues regarding peer-to-peer connections, it was still up in the air whether PS4, Wii U and current generation versions of the game would feature this dedicated connectivity

The Xbox versions will use Microsoft’s Azure cloud service, though there’s no word on what servers the other versions will run on. Mark Rubin also confirmed that it will be a hybrid system, using player-to-player connections too in order to create the best online experience:

In order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible. There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance.

This all stems out from a tweet from the CoD producer, so there’s little technical details in there. It really seems as though they’re trying to make Ghosts a robust online experience, so that there are no issues when running the game on six separate platforms.

  1. But…. but… XBox One has the power of teh cloud…

    • Where did the cloud go? You are FIRED Internet!

  2. so thats where all their money went, instead of creating a new and refreshing game. Also shows what a croc of shit the “Xbox Cloud” thing is really.

  3. PlayStation has always enjoyed dedicated servers, it was always Microsoft’s Xbox live restrictions that forced multi platform games down the inferior p2p route (as clearly developers didn’t want to code for both)

    • This just simply isn’t true. Only black ops 2 ran off dedicated servers, all other iterations of call of duty on ps3 were p2p.

    • Theres no Microsoft conspiracy here HG, just a case of companies using the cheaper p2p option. I can think of several PS exclusives that use p2p.

    • No they haven’t. Yet more blatant lies from the Sony zealot. I can’t wait for you to try defend the ps4’s launch which will no doubt be a huge mess. You will somehow try blame Microsoft for it

      • Why will the PS4 launch be a mess? it’s been a hell of a lot smoother and gone more to plan than XBOX One’s so far, i can’t remember a build up to a console release that has been as bad as Microsofts latest and thats before launch thats a huge mess.

      • There was fanboy nonsense being posted above (and all over the site) by HunterGatherer above. He has gone now. Please don’t make the same mistake.

      • Not just fanboy stuff, but hateful comments, which we just couldn’t tolerate any more.

      • No worries just didn’t see how it could be forseen that the PS4’s launch was no doubt going to be a huge mess thats all.

      • I wasn’t trying to sound like a fanboy i maybe worded my reply in a manner that came across that way, anyway ill consider myself warned.

      • Deja-Vu? I could have sworn I’d seen a comment typed by HG last week that was hidden with “banned” typed under his username. :-?

      • My comment was to SLUMMO316, not Wardy-77.

HG was temporarily banned and then unbanned again after speaking via email. Unfortunately he didn’t change so now the ban isn’t temporary.

      • Ahh right no worries Adam i thought to myself i’ve never been warned in all the time i’ve been on TSA as OnlineAssassin77 and Wardy-77- , i saw HG get banned the first time and hours later resurrected to be banned once more Thanks for clearing it up.

  4. Hopefully dedicated servers will become the norm for all online games soon. Makes the experience so much better.

  5. As for cod ghosts. I’m really not to interested in it. Having played and completed every cod on veteran over the years I feel the cod series has become stagnant. For me it’s battlefield 4 that’s getting my money this year

    • Same here. Between BF4, KZ Shadowfall and Destiny, I should be good for my FPS fix over the next 6 months… COD Dogs just hasn’t piqued my interest at all…

      • I’d have said the same but I went hands on at Eurogamer and was pleasantly surprised. I have COD preordered from Game as they had a glitch where the PS4 hardened edition was £49.99 instead of £94.99. If that comes through, I’ll likely keep it though otherwise plan to complete KZ4 from the mega bundle and will probably trade that in for COD. Also looking forward to Destiny and to a lesser extent BF4. Gameplay for BF4 looks good on PC but will wait for reviews before picking it up. With KZ, Watchdogs, DriveClub PS+ and Resogun, I think I’ll be set for a while – that’s without mention of the million titles on PS3 I’ve yet to start/complete.

  6. I couldn’t be arsed to queue for COD at EGX. I did play KZ and it was excellent, I also saw BF4 (which looked to be running on XB1, but who can really say for sure) and it looked great. Resogun was my game of the show – absolutely stunning…!

  7. Have you not seen all the mess ups Sony have done with the ps3 this year? Constant store update problems. Nearly every week there is something wrong with the weekly update. Then the classic updates that brick ps3’s. I think they should figure out how to do updates to ps3 and psn that are error free before releasing a new console

    • How is this relevant to the article?

    • Fanboyish nonsense isn’t welcome on this site. This is an utterly ridiculous and irrelevant post.

      • Well if that’s the case then you should have been banned ages ago. At least your old enough to play cod now and might get some interest in your cod clan you kept banging on about on a different forum

  8. Dandy :) Chose to pick up Ghosts on 360 instead of the X1 in the end so I could play with a few friends who aren’t making the next-gen leap yet. Good to know I won’t be missing out on those dedicated servers.
