Skyrim Listed By Bethesda For Xbox One And PS4

Bethesda have listed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One twice on their own website.

Website OnlySP also claims to have received an email from Bethesda suggesting a surprise announcement this Sunday, but the fonts used look like they come from the Fallout universe rather than the world of The Elder Scrolls.

Back in March 2013 Bethesda said development ended on Skyrim but they did add the caveat that they “will never truly say goodbye to it.”

Skyrim haunted the top twenty for almost a year and is now well past its second birthday, it does seem an odd choice to spruce up for the new consoles especially when The Elder Scrolls Online is in the works. There again, they might have been able to shove Skyrim’s code into the ESO engine along with some high resolution PC textures and make a quick port.

Personally I think the next-gen listings are an incorrect field entry on a Bethesda database and the email probably relates to Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics, which were taken off digital distribution sites a few days ago.

UPDATE: Bethesda’s Pete Hines has confirmed that the listings were simply an error to do with their website’s CMS.

He also acknowledge the email, and made it clear that this is yet another hoax.

  1. It’s Fallout. Bethesda never re-releases TES on other platforms. Apart from Arena and Daggerfall. The text is the typical fallout one. Most likely the Fallout trilogy being reuploaded by them. Doubt it’s Fallout 4 as they like to announce stuff like this at stuff like E3.

    • I’m inclined to agree with you on this one especially with TES Online coming out later in the year.

      • Zenimax are developing and publishing TES:Online. And they don’t do re-releases as it would require developing Skyrim for the PS4 and X1 due to the increased ram. The ports would most likely run like crap if they just used the PS3 and 360 versions. Unsure about PC. That and they are finished with Skyrim. Apart from supporting mods and probably patching the creation kit.

      • If they were to do a port of Skyrim to X1 or PS4 it would more likely to derive from the PC source base. Probably a little more work on PS4 to convert DX calls to OpenGL (assumption).

  2. Do an edit on the article please…they have removed the listing for the PS4/XBox One already!

  3. If they did a £10 upgrade this would be awesome as I only got through an hour or so of this and do really need to get back into it.
Strangely I have no interest in a new Fallout. Complete Fallout 3 twice, and played most way through New Vegas but would say I don’t really like Fallout games – no idea why though as I obviously stick with them.

  4. If it’s Fallout 4, I will go buy a PS4 on it’s release day.

    Unlikely though.

  5. If this came out on PS4 with all the DLC’s there would be no power that would stop the dragonborn rising again.

  6. Their site says that TES:Online is June 2014 for PS4 and Xbone.
