Satoru Iwata Recovering From Surgery, Will Miss Nintendo’s Annual Shareholders Meeting

There was a bit of a big gap in Nintendo’s E3 event this year, and that was the missing presence of the company’s President, Satoru Iwata. He missed E3 due to health reasons, and now he will be missing Nintendo’s annual shareholder meeting. This is down to the fact he needs more time to recover from surgery, which removed a growth on a bile duct. Luckily this growth was found early and no lasting damage appears to have been done by it.

Mr Iwata explained all of this in a letter, stating he regretted not being able to be there.

“As a result, I have no choice but to miss the company’s very important activity, the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, to be held this month. As the president of the company, I regret that I cannot attend the meeting. However, I understand that I have to prioritize my medical treatment and to recover as soon as possible so that I will again be able to do my best to help the company to grow. I hope that you understand.”

TSA would like to wish Mr Iwata a speedy recovery.

  1. A speedy recovery indeed but … you know… feel free to draw it out a bit and pretend things are going a bit slower. Everyone loves a few days off at the end of such a recovery. :-)

  2. I wish him all the best and a full recovery from what sounds like an unpleasant surgery. Not that there’s such a thing as a pleasant one.

I just hope he has his 3DS with him, no time like recovery-time to do some gaming.

    • Presumably not to play Trauma Center mind you…
