Community Round-Up: 09/08/14

With the rain hammering down outside, it sounds like Gazza’s picked exactly the right time to swan off on holiday. I’m not entirely sure where he’s disappeared off to, but I hope it’s not as wet as this country is right now!

So in his stead once more, it befalls me to do this week’s round-up. If you’re sitting comfortably, then I’ll begin…

As per usual, last night’s regular Battlefield was a rather popular one, with TSA members struggling to squeeze themselves into the last few spots on a server. You can expect the same to happen every Friday at 8PM for the foreseeable future, but it’s joined, as per usual, with Monday night’s GT6 Meet and Wednesday night’s Red Dead Meet.

If you fancy something different, you can always add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

CRU2-Bayonetta2

It was a good week for Previews, where Dom was wowed by Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U,  Jim took an interesting look at the ambitious MMO ArcheAge, and spoke to Trion’s Victoria Voss about the game. Finally, Matt went hands on with PlayStation Now, Sony’s streaming service, and came away quite impressed.

Micro Machines returned by another name, as Table Top Racing got a good 8/10 review from Dan, while Metrico got the same score out of Peter, as he reviewed one of this month’s new PS+ titles. I then went and had a look at the Titanfall Frontier’s Edge DLC, as well as looking at how the title is gradually evolving since its launch.

The regular features saw Blair investigating the curious new brawler called Overruled! in an Indie Focus, while Jim played COD-alike Modern Combat 5: Blackout for Mobile Watch and looked back on Metal Gear Solid in PlayBack.

Aran used his Matter of Perspective series to tackle the perpetual war in the Mario universe, before Sam took a fascinating dive into what’s wrong with attempts at storytelling within video games. We also wrapped up our Ones To Watch 2014 Recap with a look back at our picks for the PS4, before diving in to give new announcements from this year their due, as new arrivals.

The hot topics from last week’s Chronicle included EA’s new EA Access subscription and Sony’s reaction to it, the PlayStation Now beta pricing and the announcement of F1 2014. WeView then wrapped up your thoughts on the recent Destiny Beta, before serving up Titanfall for your judgmental pleasure.

Rounding things out in the usual way, What We Played hit #168, while Peter, Lewis and Kev ran amok during Podcast #149, in Kris’ absence.

It’s fairly quiet in the forums right now, but there’s a few things going on:

  • Youles kicked off a thread about The Last of Us: Remastered, to talk about his fun and frolics online.
  • Recent chitchat in the Backlog Online Trophies thread has surrounded the regular Red Dead Redemption meets, and nabbing some of those co-op trophies.
  • Similarly, Battlefield 4 is drawing a couple new players thanks to the regular meets online.

That would seem to be your lot, for this week. I’ve just the Chronicle to write for tomorrow before I pop over to Germany for Gamescom, sausage and beer. With Gazza’s continuing holidays, it may be a mystery guest taking on the mantle of next week’s round up…
