Monday’s Postponed PSN Maintenance Rescheduled For Tomorrow Evening

Remember that PSN maintenance that was meant to happen on Monday, but then got pushed back because PSN went down for most of Sunday thanks to the DDoS attack? Well it’s back. Sony have just announced that it is now scheduled for tomorrow evening, Thursday 28th August, from 16:00 until 05:00 the next morning, UK time.

This is actually quite a bit longer than the maintenance was originally going to be, as it was set to run from 17:40 until 00:50. Additionally, PlayStation’s Online Support Co-ordinator, SuperFastZombie, wrote on the PlayStation Forums to say, “There may be some additional downtime after the maintenance period for testing purposes.”

The previous advice remains however, that if you have signed into your PSN on your PS4 prior to maintenance, or within the last five days on other devices – presuming that your console has your log in details saved for auto-log in – you should be able to carry on playing online. We’ll see how well that works tomorrow night, I guess.

  1. At least it’s not today store update day or friday night to clash with the Battlefield meet.

  2. That is a significantly longer maintenance period, i wonder if they need to do additional maintenance because of the DDOS attack, or whether it’s something to do with the features being added in the upcoming firmware update.

    • Oh! That’s actually quite a good shout. I hadn’t thought that the SharePlay stuff and even the hooks to get direct Youtube exports running in firmware 2.0 could require some elements of server support, but it does make sense that there would be certain server side elements needed to facilitate them.

As for why it’s twice as long, I’d personally speculate that they might be trying to find ways to better filter out DDoS traffic, so that this particular style of attack isn’t as effective in future.
