Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s PC Release Will Be On September 1st

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s release date for consoles was set as September 1st a while back, but the PC release date was going to be September 15th. Today Konami has confirmed that the PC edition’s release will now fall in line and also occur on September 1st. Pre-orders are live on Steam and these will include Ground Zeroes for free. PC owners will also get access to a behind the scenes documentary of Metal Gear Solid V.

Outside of that news Nikkei released a report on the working conditions of Konami, and the report alleges that the publisher is treating staff poorly. Some apparent failings include all computers in the former Kojima offices have no internet access, those who spend too much time on lunch are getting shamed publicly, developers are reassigned jobs if their position is not seen as necessary to janitorial duties or security.

Konami hasn’t yet replied to these allegations.

  1. Woooow, only a month to go!! I’d better get cracking on Peace Walker, definitely need to play that again as revision.

  2. Kinda unfair that steam gets gz for free. Sure, ps+ got it and it’s dirt cheap. But the way in which gz was handled stinks. Wish I waited now but day 1 I got it and disappointed I was.

Still, excited for metal gear solid one last time.

    • I honestly believe that GZ’s handling was down to Konami and not a creative (read Kojima) choice.
Looking at the current situation, It’s very possible that this was the start of the downfall of Kojima Productions.
I think GZ’s was released to recoup some money for production costs and to test waters. I think GZ was supposed to be the prelude chapter of the actual release, part of Phantom Pain but who knows.
I’m really glad I played Ground Zeros, really glad! It’s great! But I wish they’d waited on the release. It was a very bad business decision in my eyes and one that started a very catastrophic chain of events.

      • I totally agree, but I don’t believe the entire GZ game would’ve been included in MGSV. Once you get cracking on all the extra missions there’s actually 10-12 hours worth of stuff to do and whilst that might not be worth £25 or be as amazing value as Peace Walker it’s still a decent chunk of game. Whatever the case it’s a shame Konami and Kojima have fallen out, but at least V is still being released. I’ve sourced myself a Kojima ‘Fox’ sticker to put on the game sleeve, I believe this is the right thing to do :)
