It’s been a frantic, non-stop week of bouncing between games and preview sessions at Gamescom. Dom and I have both seen dozens of games in the space of a few days, and now have the tough task of trying to remember everything as we write up all the previews through the next couple weeks.

We’ve got plenty of catch up to do in that sense, but there’s also catch up to do on all of the Gamescom news that came with Europe’s biggest video game event. Let’s see what happened!

In the News This Week

Games in Review and Featured Articles

Let’s start with the handful of previews and features we have from Gamescom. The very first thing I saw was the week’s theatre presentation for Starfield, with Bethesda’s final pre-release promotional beat being to show off the opening few hours of the game in an abridged form. So, what happens in the Starfield’s first few hours?

In contrast, I had hands on previews for both Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin’s cinematic single player campaign, as well as trying the intriguing Roguelite War Games mode that is coming to Homeworld 3.

Separately, I also had a preview of Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles, the musical RPG remaster you didn’t know you needed.

For the reviews, we had a clutch of games, one of EA’s biggest yearly games.

And a couple of gamepad reviews to go alongside:

To round out the features, we checked in on What We Played, featuring Mortal Kombat 1, Immortals of Aveum and The Expanse

Your Achievements

Let’s check in on what you’ve been playing and doing over the past week:

  • Andrewww returned from a holiday in the US for the last 5 weeks, during which he left even his PS Vita behind, but did get a private tour of EA’s Redwood campus (and had a lovely lunch). He binged The Last of Us on the flights he took and enjoyed it, and did get some gaming in with a classic arcade machine at a lodge in the Mesa Verde National Park. Now that he is back, he’s been keeping the US vibes going with Far Cry 5!
  • willbuchanan has been playing the Japanese version of Lego DC Super Villains, opening up a fresh batch of trophies to earn (I think), and was drawn into picking up FIFA 23 by the Women’s World Cup final last weekend and Mary Earps’ performance in particular.
  • And finally, MrYd has picked up Diablo IV after what sounds like an awful few weeks both at work and in life. Hopefully more gaming this weekend helps take your mind off things.

Have a good weekend and we’ll catch you all soon!
