Something for the Weekend – 02/12/23

We’re officially into the month of Christmas, where Mariah Carey is inescapable, people open doors to retrieve tiny chocolates each day, and everybody’s eyes glaze over while trying to figure out what gifts to buy one another or while looking forward to whatever days off and holidays await at the end of the month.

There’s still a few big moments on the gaming calendar – Avatar is coming out, there’s The Game Awards, and some big, big reveal trailers – but let’s look at how November wrapped up last week.

In the News This Week

Games in Review & Featured Articles

Beyond the reviews, Dom went hands on with GranBlue Fantasy: Relink and was particularly taken with its visual stylings and action RPG battling, while I delved into Stellaris Nexus, which plays out a little like a digital board game adaptation of Paradox’s sci-fi grand strategy game. Jason, meanwhile, fell for the buff lions and deck building at the heart of Cross Blitz, as it heads into Steam Early Access.

And for everyone that’s struggling to find a gift for a gamer (or who needs some suggestions for their own friends and relatives), we have a little Christmas gift guide with some ideas.

Rounding out the week, What We Played featured Last Train Home, Forza Motorsport and Like a Dragon: Ishin.

Your Achievements

Let’s see what you’ve been playing.

  • Andrewww has been playing and rather liking Ghostwire: Tokyo – “It reminds me of my time in Japan, and some of it in Tokyo, which I enjoyed a lot back then,” he said, though presumably there were less spooky things happening to him.
  • willbuchanan has been working through the Asian version of Lego DC Supervillains, for those sweet, sweet trophies, and started playing both Stardew Valley and Genshin Impact as he settles into some real time sink gaming.

And that’s a wrap for this week. Have a good weekend, stay warm, play some fun games, and we’ll catch you all soon!
