Polyphony Digital have announced that sales of the Gran Turismo franchise have now topped 55 million units with Gran Turismo PSP selling a whopping 1.8 million units and Gran Turismo Prologue on PS3 shifting 4.65 million units. Gran Turismo 5 has been pushed back to later in this year but if the sales are anything near it’s predecessors than Metal Gear Sold 4’s title of “Best Selling PS3 exclusive” won’t hold for very long. Here are the sales for each version of the game:

Gran Turismo – 10,850,000
Gran Turismo 2 – 9,370,000
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec – 14,890,000
Gran Turismo Concept Series – 1,560,000
Gran Turismo 4: Prologue – 1,350,000
Gran Turismo 4 – 10,980,000
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue – 4,650,000
Gran Turismo (PSP) – 1,800,000
Series Total – 55,450,000

  1. The pinnacle of the series and the only one I enjoyed sold the most, with regards to GT PSP I wonder if piracy rates are still 90% if so then nearly 20m people could be enjoying it by now.

  2. Ah, so that’s why they can take the piss with delays.

    • Yup, the money from GT5P alone has probably netted them around $100 million… They can literally take as much time as they like with it.

      • And they are.

  3. That’s some pretty impressive numbers right there!

    Hopefully GT5 sells well, too.

  4. PSP version selling well, I didn’t think it was doing well!

  5. I can worryingly count myself as a digit on every single one of those totals.

    • I’m a digit on five… Only one I was annoyed with was the first and only prologue (read paid-for-demo) I will ever purchase… GT 5 Prologue… Unfortunately I picked it up only a few months ago and am now “really” worried that the full release will be little more than an increased number of cars and tracks. Loved the games before but, judging by that prologue, it is showing it’s age. Oh… I KNOW GT 5 prologue is old so I still have my fingers crossed the full release will be great.

      • Given the sheer amount of time they have had to put it together, anything less than a vast improvement over GT5 prologue would be a considerable disappointment.

Having been treated to Forza 3 recently, it’s my opinion that GT5 has a fair bit to live up to.

      • Have you seen some of the recent videos of GT5?

Admittedly most of them are hand held videos of people playing in booths and the like, but despite the quality of the recording you can clearly tell GT5 will be miles ahead of GT5:P.

      • 5 for me as well. Each of the first 4 ‘main’ games, plus GT5 Prologue.

    • Me too. I am a sucker for GT.

  6. WOWBIG NUMBERS

  7. Do the GT PSP numbers include the giveaways with PSPgo consoles? :/

  8. Impressive numbers. Love the PSP version. Can’t wait for GT5.

  9. I am surprised GT4 sold less than GT3. I personally think its the best of the series with a good mix of high spec road cars, supercars, race versions and fun old bangers

  10. Can’t believe the PSP version has sold almost 2m units – that is an impressive figure.

  11. GT3 A Spec was by far the best imo, that game had me hooked for hours on my PS2.
Prologue is still impressive, even if it is an extremely large demo.

  12. Brilliant thats were our money went. Good for them, brilliant franchise. Cant wait to tune my Mini on GT5. Brum brum.
