Kinect Lifestyle Video

I’m going to try to be competely inpartial here – it’s early, I’ve not really slept but this appears to be the official Kinect lifestyle video, the one that’s meant to appeal to casual gamers.

I’ll be honest, though, and say that I’m a bit confused.  Do Microsoft really think there’s a market for such overly family based experiences on their Xbox 360, especially one that now looks like this?

I don’t know if it’s just the video, but there appears to be some insane lag too, from the boat jumping to the guys setting off on the track, the delay is there to see.  The graphics look great, though.

  1. Hmm, doesn’t this completely rule out Kimect for physically unfit people?

  2. Shocking… the hand gestures for video playback control with the family, I can see that turning into a free for all! Dont we already fight for control of the remote, now everyone has one!

    • and god forgive anyone would raise their hand for anything else but changing the program.

      • I hate it when Mario does his spin jump just because I scratch myself while holding the Wiimote. I can only imagine what my girlfriend does to me when I accidently skip her favourite movie scene :(

      • “accidently” *cough* :D

    • Just watched this video, its hilarious.

      • That is hilarious in all kinds of bad ways.

      • Brilliant

      • Hehe, I thought the first video was flaky but that second one comes across as ‘Lost: The Controller-less Driving game that makes you crash’

      • mate. That’s superb! hahahahah!!

Microsoft Kinect: It messes up your living room and makes you look clinically insane

      • Absolutely, who wants to hoover up all that glitter!?

  3. I love how the video tries very hard to not show the people doing the actions and the reactions on the screen at the same time. And yeah, there seemed to be quite a lot of lag where you could see both of these actions at once.

I really don’t see this going off. It just looks… so bad. :\

  4. Is that a Sony Bravia TV they are using?

    • Haha. Classic.

    • I was just about to say that!! it is indeed. KDL46X3100 :D my tv :D

      the video is so cheesy..

  5. Does Kinect come bundles with that big of a living room?

  6. The worst part is that everyone playing this looks so stupid. That alone would me stop from playing the game. In fact, I wouldnt even try it. I really hope for microsoft that “normal” games playable from a sitting position are possible.

  7. I thought it looked quite good, but all these things mentioned above does change my mind a little. Imagine picking up a drink causing the volume to go up or something like that?

  8. Well, that looks shit.

  9. Have we seen something yet, that is so revolutionary, that it wouldn’t be impossible with the Move or even the Wii?

    the answer is no! :-D

    • Or the PS2 for that matter.

      • and even the PS2’s EyeToy didn’t need 2 cameras to capture 3D

  10. I usually don’t comment on Xbox-stuff since I only have a PS3 and I got my gaming needs covered with that. This video requires a comment though.

Kinect is a bad name (Wave was better). These games all look like blatant Wii rip-offs and I don’t see a system like this capturing Wii-owners by offering the same damn games again (this goes for Move as well). And that control-the-movie-with-hand-gestures-thingy? In families with kids, that is an effing world war waiting to happen.

    • Yeah ‘Kinect’ doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue very well, though to be fair everyone hated the name Wii at first, now no one really cares.

      • Kinect = Connect
        Wii = We

People will get used to it and importantly it’s easy to trademark and search the internet for, unlike Move. I’m not saying Move is a bad name, just that made up/altered words tend to work better for brand names IMO.
