DiRT 3 Gets “Target Renders”

Target renders – not the real thing but, hopefully, an approximation of how the final game will look.

If you get nothing out of these shots other than the notion that there’s lots of snow, mud and fast cars doing slides all over the road, then they’ve done their job.

  1. That fourth one in the forest is beautiful. Hope this is a good as I hope it is (how’s that for a self-closing sentence) – you know what I mean.

  2. Target renders are nice but can be a little annoying. These look amazing but essentially they are saying ‘this is how good we want it to look’. There is a lot that could change between these and release though

    • yea thats what i was thinking. its a bit like cut scenes being used in RPGs to show the game off, bit to false IMO

    • I dunno, they did release target renders of Dirt 1 and 2, the Dirt 1 renders at the time looked gorgeous and I never believed for a second that they’d manage it, but they did. Unfortunately I can’t find those anymore. There are Dirt 2 ones that I can find, though they did overshoot alittle there:

    • Actually, I’m pretty sure it was coined right here on TSA. I think it was about the Killzone 2 target renders or something… Anyone want to claim what’s rightfully theirs?

  4. looks good, im glad that Dirt3 is going to be more rally orientated, should be good, looking forward to it!

    • Just got the PC version of DiRT 2 for $6 (direct2drive sale, still ongoing). It destroys the console versions which were already fairly impressive looking. I’ll probably stick with the PC version for DiRT 3 – it might even look as good as these screenshots…

  8. Target renders always create hype that a game rarely lives up to sadly. Still Dirt 2 was brilliant, so I don’t have many doubts with Dirt 3

  9. If its even only a wee bit better looking than dirt2 then i’ll be happy.

  10. Those renders are gorgeous, i hope the vehicle colours are more subdued like this in the final game and less day-glo like Dirt2.
