New PSN Store Updated To Version 1.01

As promised.

The new PSN Store launched last month.
The new PlayStation Store has been updated after its launch in October. We originally said that it would get regular updates with new features, and today the Store has started a move towards that with a mandatory 1.01 update.

In what I assume will be a reasonably regular thing, when you start the Store you’ll be prompted for an update after the system has done its usual check.

And, as with all PS3 patches, you’ll be signed out whilst it updates. Version 1.01 is 26 MB in size, so shouldn’t take long.

In terms of new features though, this doesn’t actually do anything – or at least doesn’t appear to do anything that I could see. There’re no patch notes so it’s tricky to say for sure, but something like download list searching definitely hasn’t been added.

I’m still not entirely sold on the Store, I find it clunky and slow, two things an e-commerce site shouldn’t be, and whilst the latter can be blamed on my rural (read: terrible) internet connection, navigation and ease of use should still be top priority.

I’d be happy with PasteBin, a thumbnail and a brief explanation. The singing and dancing helps but only if it adds value.

Not quite sure why you have to add a demo to a shopping trolly, be reassured it costs nothing, then click another download button. And I wonder what percentage of transactions really require the multiple purchase trolly/cart method anyway, surely a simpler and faster way to get just one thing could have been thought of?

Agreed, it is a bit of an all round the houses approach and seems to be extra work created for reasons unknown…..a bit of a quango :P
That new search function is a great idea but sadly doesn’t seem to find things. If I want to see all of the Rocksmith stuff for eg. that are on the store and then start the search, by the time I’m at letter m it still hasn’t picked anything up, or if it has it’ll be one or two songs from the large collection that seems to be AWOL….,,,,bafffling!!

Yeah I was looking for the Prince Of Persia DLC a few weeks ago and the search simply didn’y find it, however going through the categories menus worked fine. The link from in the game also didn’t work as it threw me out on the Latest Videos page, I’ve bought DLC through Burnout before but I wouldn’t trust the new store to get it right. One last complaint, where are all the old demos? They are still downloadable from your list but they’ve been removed from the store. This might have happened before the new store to be fair, but I’m still after SSX On Tour as a ps2 classic which went AWOL after about a week of being on the store, again still downloadable if you bought it straight away as my mate did!

Exactly most peoples point on why its not as good. It looks good but it takes too long to download a demo, or anything, by having to go through your basket.

It’s sluggish to load up, sluggish while in it, and things take forever to download a quick demo/theme or whatever.

Personally preferred the old one. The new one looks nice, but it’s too slow and takes an age to actually open. Speed is the key, I want to spend as little time on the store as possible.

I hope they can patch it to include an ‘old store layout’ option.

Dear Sony, please fix the search so it actually finds all pieces of DLC and other stuff, plus add search or at least filter & sort option to the Download List.

Who am I kidding though, it’s 2012 anno domini and I still cannot sort my games alphabetically on the XMB…

I like to look of the new store, but I to find it really hit and miss when it comes to navigating my way round. And why you need to add a free demo to a shopping cart and then purchase it is beyond me??

COD World@War used to give patch notes on xmb, only game i’ve had do that. Always seemed a strange concept to me, having to surf the web to find all other p/notes, especially after notes on W@W.

Uniformity is used so little on the PS3. Eg. XMB Apps… ah we’ll add a ch folder, but only let you put certain apps in it, make some mandatory, some dloadable. You can delete some, some you can’t.

Ahh the SCEE brainstorming meetings, like how do these user unfriendly ideas enter peoples’ minds, let alone get approved by a manger(s.) Give me a few mins in their office & i’ll show them how to make your xmb & store user friendly.
