Driveclub is an incredibly pretty game.
Oh, you want me to back up that statement? Well you’re quite the discerning reader, if that’s the case. So I’ll present to you the latest in a series of “direct feed” videos from the game.
Before I embed a Youtube link, though, a few things to look out for taken from the list on the EU blog:
- The gameplay is set against the Salar de Surire in Chile, between 6PM and 9PM – time set to progress at 60x real time.
- This is still awaiting many optimisations. Improving anti-aliasing and pop-in, for example, and the goal of 1080p60 is still currently out of reach, but in Evolution’s sights.
- You should look at the observatory towers, and see how very well detailed they are. Also, when it switches to night, note all of the lighting effects which go on within the cockpit.
- This run has been set to have a clear sky, to really show off the stars, but clouds are dynamically generated.
- There’s no HUD, but the game is still playing the sounds for what is known as Overdrives. They’re not some crazy engine noise.
Finally, you should really not bother with the Youtube embed, and head over to Gamersyde, who are hosting a 500MB file of the 2:50 sprint which features very little compression compared to Youtube. You want to scroll down on this page, and click where it says “Download: MP4 HD” instead of streaming.
But if you’ve no patience, here’s the Youtube embed:
I really need to get to writing up my thoughts on this game, soon.

Wow, that is very, very pretty.
At 1:03 you can see the Drivatar….

Isn’t it just the ghost of the previous lap?
Amphlett
Hmmm, it looks quite pretty but, rather like many a catwalk model, it appears to be lacking any real personality. It all looks a little too sterile for me.
TSBonyman
Just watching it on Vita now and it looks lovely but i’m going to grab that video so i can see it better on tv later. Whatever about the fps, it’s all looking pretty smooth and solid.
Eldur
Very pretty, but still concerned about the jaggies that are clearly visible on the join between the rear windshield and the shell. Still time to polish yet though!
KeRaSh
Apparently they have a custom AA system that hasn’t been implemented in any builds that were publicly shown. I’m sure they will get these things under control. Their games always come together at the last minute.
Someone on GAF compared screenshots of this video to PS3 launch title screenshots (also a racing game) and the difference is mind boggling. Anyone who thinks this looks like last gen is lying to himself. :P
Wardy-77-
Downloaded it an watched it on tv,have to say i think it looks bloody rather nice i think especially at night the reflections of the dials in the window the stars in the sky,let me behind that bloody wheel :)
2ofclubs
It’s getting there. Still needs more polish but it’s still their first attempt with this upcoming generation. It might not initially be as big a leap as everyone is hoping for. Especially as they aren’t exactly known for raising the bar in terms of graphics.
Awayze
Looks rather nice
blackredyellow
Looks great. Can’t wait to get my hands on it, and a PS4!
beeje13
Can’t you at least see how the lighting is improved with a real time system?
beeje13
I bet the devs would love a few more months working with it.
freezebug2
Nothing a patch or three won’t put right. :O
It does have a really nice day/night cycle which’ll be great for setting up custom challenges and races for a more realistic setting, I hope that there’s some Le Mans fireworks going off at some stage during the witching hour :P
