We’re on the cusp of Gamescom this weekend, as hundreds of thousands of gaming fans prepare to descend on Cologne for lots of playing games, queueing to play games and currywurst.
Dave and I will both be out there for TSA, and our schedules are absolutely rammed with games both big and small. Also, there will be beer and sausage.

Who said August was a slow month for gaming? If anything, game publishers are all crying out “Gotta go fast!” In Sonic and Uncharted’s case, it’s seemingly paid off, but Agent of Mayhem… well…

This Week’s Features
We went hands on with Total War: Warhammer II’s Skaven this week, as they’re announced as the fourth race in the game, before speaking to Lead Writer Andy Hall and Lead Programmer Scott Pitkethly about the game.
Dom took a good look at Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch, saying that he feels Nintendo’s console should remain the home of the franchise. Speaking of which, if you’re interested in checking it out, it’s a Japan only demo right now, but Jake wrote up a guide on how to get access to the Japanese eShop.
I took a look at two new games being published by Green Man Gaming, with both of them featuring different kinds of robots. JackHammer is what you get when you mix Robot Wars with Quake and Dodgeball, while War Tech Fighters (AKA WTF) is a spin on the popular Gundam style of interstellar robot combat. You get to drop kick spaceships too.
Hot on the heels of his review, Jim cobbled together six need-to-know facts about Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for those interested in the standalone release.
Finally, What We Played featured the awesome Sonic Mania, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Observer.

Your Achievements
There’s been plenty of gaming going on in the community this week. Freezebug is closing in on the Horizon Zero Dawn platinum with just a few hunting trials and training dummy missions to complete, while MrYd managed to avoid the distractions of Yakuza 0 long enough to finish Megadimension Neptunia VII two times over, but missed a scene to get the best ending.
Crazy_Del has been busy as usual, nabbing the Borderlands platinum before trying out LawBreakers, continuing with Friday the 13th and plugging away at WipEout Omega Collection. For JR. it’s mostly been Return to Arkham collection, before grabbing the platinum for The Town of Light, despite disliking the entire experience.
Finally, blast71 played a game called “waking up for work at 4.30am and getting a case of vertigo, nearly knocking myself out on the wall whilst waking the rest of the house in the process.” Thankfully he’s a bit better now, but it got the likes of Avenger sharing the time he did that when he weed, Tuffcub saying how he fell head first into a door and ron_mcphatty sharing that his mate has to sit down to wee because of an artery compression issue.
I have been enlightened by blast71’s experience.
The Week Ahead
It might be August, but there’s still a very healthy selection of games coming out this week.

- ChromaGun – PS4 – 22/08
- Mages of Mystralia – PS4 – 22/08
- F1 2017 – PS4, XBO, PC – 25/08

That’s it for this week, see you again soon!

On that ‘Your achievements’ note, I geared/stepped up earlier today and platinumed Horizon. Cracking game, one of the best, I’m quite tempted to play through a New game+ sporting all bells and whistles earned from completing the game beforehand.
My 99th platinum trophy…not a clue what No.#100 will be as they are earned so rarely these days!

There you go Tef, you learn something new every day! Especially from us nutcases.
I had a go at the Monster Hunter demo and had a fun ten minutes of not having a clue! I’ve never played the series before so trying to work out what all the Japanese means through trial and error was pointless. Every cloud though, I now have a Japanese alter ego, Ron_McYuki! He can fight my American one Ron_McYanky in the Pacific while I stay out of it.
