Not everyone was overjoyed with the news that sci-fi epic RPG Mass Effect 2 will be docking with the PS3 this January. After all, the game is synonymous with the Xbox 360 platform and one of the best reasons to own the console. Responding to the game spreading its console wings, Microsoft are still bullish that if you want the “full Mass Effect experience”, the Xbox 360 is still the place to be. A Microsoft representative spoke to IGN, stating:
“With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise.”
And just to put this one to bed. Yes, Mass Effect 1 appeared on the PC and was ported by EA. But, no, there is no possibility this game will also jump space-ship to the PS3. Microsoft put up the coin for the first game and they own the publishing rights. They just don’t own the IP – hence why this January is looking awesome for PS3 owners. The spokesperson has confirmed the status of the first game’s future by stating:
“The original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience.”
That’s that. Right?

I’ve yet to play the first one, but hearing how it uses ME1 save in ME2 for me and how the story fits together when I do end up playing it, will be on 360.

thats my problem with this…i couldn’t care less about ME, but the idea of only being able to play part 2 of story seems daft, as you will miss out the 1st part and it will take away from the 2 game.
Just like MGS4 was a flop in the eyes of those who haven’t played MGS1,2,and 3, ME2 will be seen okay and not great.(i’m guess ME is great with all the fuss being made by TSA’ers)

ME imo wasnt as good as people say, i spent a good hour in the ship not knowing what to do (had a nice convo wit the crew though) i finally learned how to set the ship to a destination, by that time i forgot where i was supposed to be going or doing so i just picked a random planet, the driving was horrible and the stats on armour and weapons are so confusing. ME2 is much better, it cuts all the bad things out (lift loading time.. omg) and makes the game easier to use. plus i dont think youd have much trouble with the story, its basically the otyher aliens dont like humans and dont believe you…

yeah, I never understood this exclusive mentality… but oh yeah it’s on PC too, dont worry about that though. it’s still the most important on xbox.

Whilst it’s not up there with the GTA broadside Sony took a few years ago, it’s still massive news in relative terms to the Xbox 360 stable of games.

Can’t argue with that, but at least more people will be able to join in going forward.

Kindof hard to tell someone off commenting about a microsoft press release… They ALWAYS read like fanboy speak, only in corporate language.

….They unfortunately forgot ea generally own the rights to it now completely, THEY published it and brought it to a pc and can bring it to the Playstation 3, microsoft have no say in the matter anymore.
Also mentioned that ‘he wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise’ All the dlc is on the ps3 disk.

Did you even read the article? EA ported the original to PC, that is all. Microsoft own the console publishing rights to Mass Effect 1.

Is there such a thing as console publishing rights??? EA didn’t just ported it, EA published it (which leads me to belive that either EA has the rights to everithing, or just hasn’t the rights to publish ME1 on the X360, but can do so on the PS3), actually, EA didn’t even port it, Demiurge Studios did it. Can someone please explain how can MS own the rights of publishing on the PS3?

Does it stop them creating a new game that gives the back story and bundling that as the hours of extra content?

Well this is good news but there is one thing that I feel is a little more important…. more stuff on psn.
I mean most people who wanted to play Mass Effect 2 has allready played it can’t we get some more arcade games and stuff on the psn instead.
The European store sucks compared to the US and Japanese stores.
