Final Fantasy XIII-2 Announced

As expected, Square Enix have announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 at their 1st Production Department Premier event in Tokyo today. The conference is still ongoing so we don’t have much information at the moment.

What we do know is that Motomu Toriyama will direct again, it’s due for both the PS3 and 360 for a simultaneous release in 2011 (at least in Japan) and the trailer shown at the event had Lightning in armor, fighting with a purple haired man.

[Update] Here’s Lightning in the first official screenshot wearing the aforementioned armour. Snazzy!

  1. I adore Final Fantasy, but XIII really killed it for me. No towns, very few proper sidequests, and the difficulty spikes ended with me giving up trying to finish it. Hard to get excited about this.

    • I’m with you on this one. Hard to get excited when XIII wasn’t too great. Nothing like going back and re-playing VII though!

    • I ran into the same problem in FFVII. Replayed the whole game grom the beginning but leveled more. Turns out you have to grind some to beat some jrpgs. ;) Compared to other FF games XIII was pretty easy even without grinding for hours.

  2. I wonder whether they’re going to make any mention of Versus XIII at this event…

    • They did. There was a trailer. Expected showing on the 27th Jan.

    • 20th in fact. All other trailers on the 27th.

  3. Woo! the cut blu-ray content edition….

  4. I, for one, am very happy at hearing this but yes where is all the FF13: Versus news..?

  5. Great, but we want Versus.

  6. As long as they don’t change it too much like they did from X to X-2 (yuk that game was pants!) it should be nie to get some more Final Fantasy on!

    Vanille for the win!

  7. Haha, great! Really enjoyed XIII despite its flaws, I can only see this being better!

  8. Sweeeeeeet! Now give us more info on Versus XIII…

  9. Coolio…..

  10. Given how terrible XIII was, I would imagine I will pass on this one. I miss the FFVII-X days :(
