Mass Effect 2 Download Needs 24GB

Want to know how big Mass Effect 2 is from the PSN Store? 12GB, apparently, and that’s seemingly compressed as, according to the Store description, the game needs 24GB of  your precious hard drive space to stretch its arms once you’ve downloaded the thing.

We’ve already revealed that the disk-based version requires 4.5GB of your hard drive at least, which EA told us is down to the included DLC, so it’s pretty clear that the PS3 version needs to do some considerable hard-driving to keep the game running nice and slick.

As indeed it does, as our 10/10 review will attest, but then again perhaps it’s worth waiting a little while

  1. Hmm.. Perhaps it’s time to put a bigger HDD in my 60GB version. xD

    • I upgraded my 60Gb a couple of weeks ago with a Samsung HM500JI 500GB. The HDD was £35 from ebuyer.
If your uploading a back-up of your current drive make sure you have plenty of time, The system said it would take approx 68 mins but it took 3 to 4 hours.

    • get a 1TB :) i plan to

      • lol, a 1TB hard drive for a PS3? Good luck with that, though I imagine you’ve never upgraded it in the first place…

  2. Oh My God, if u have a 60gb thats nearly half of your HDD space, thats mad

    • Or those in America who have the 20GB model!

  3. Holy motherf*cking sh*t, that’s a whole lotta gigabytes!
Luckily I already Pre-ordered it, and picking it up in two days :)))

  4. If this is going too sell anything as a download it needs too be damn cheap!!!

  5. Still enjoying the fact I can sell the physical disc when done playing to get at least some of the money back to get new games. So not downloading this one..

The one game I do not care about not be able to sell is Warhawk ;)

  6. Whoaaaa… That’s a preeeety big file. How does 24GB compress into 12 though? Is that not insane?

  7. THERE IS NO F*CKING WAY I’M DOWNLOADING THIS!

It took me 8 hours to download the DCUO BETA.

    • Ouch.

Took me one hour and twenty minutes.

    • Took me nearly 15 hours, had to leave it on over night, lol

    • To Download the Heavy Rain move update took me 16 hours.

    • I beat the lot of you on DCU. Took me a whole day. Yep 24 hours.

      • After leaving DCUO downloading for an hour, i thought i check how long left, it was 73 hrs so i quit and didnt bother :P

      • I didn’t think the PSN supported dial-up connections :-P

  8. Well, its time to invest in a super HDD. My PS3 HDD is 500GB, some people have a 1TB HDD !

    • The sitition can’t be that bad?

    • 1TB is more or less impossible, at least for the Slim (though I imagine it should be the case for the Phat as well). You need to have a hard drive that fits the exact size specs, and most 1TB laptop hard drives are just too large to fit into the enclosure.

    • I think 500GB is the limit for the PS3. You could try an external harddrive but i don’t if a PS3 would support it. Just delete the games that you have not played in a while

      • There is no actual limit, just whatever is available at the time, which at the moment is 640GB since that is the largest 2.5″ hard drive available.

  9. Perhaps better to buy it on disk then.

  10. HOLY !$%&*”. This would take a week to download and i can’t go a week without my PS3(for some strange reason when i download stuff i can’t use the other functions without it stopping the dowaload). I bet the psn version will be sold at a rip off price.

    • Probably. Borderlands costs around £9.99 from Amazon. It was £21.99 in the store. Hard copy is best.

    • If you play a game with no online features then the download will continue. So, single player games really.

      • Or you can play certain games with online features but sign out of PSN.
