Community Round-Up: 20/08/11

Are we sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin.

We’re off again on our weekly community round-up, to dig out all the things I think you may have missed on TSA. If you want to make sure you stay in the know keep reading to see what’s been going on with competitions, meets, articles and the shambling shenanigans of the TSA Forums.

For the second week running, I have the pleasure of announcing the winner of a competition. Last week Tuffcub put together the TSA Gaming Fashion Guide, which also included a rather nifty competition to win a Deus Ex: Human Revolution T-shirt. I’m happy to announce that the winner was BlackRedYellow. He should have a PM in his TSA inbox, so I’m sure he’ll be strutting his stuff around town in this in no time at all!

The Dirt 3 Tournament progresses ever onwards, too. We’ve sped through to the quarter finals, the closing time of which will be Sunday at 9PM, and it’s been great to see how things have come together. Heavy hitters have dropped out at each stage, with a few tight results between some masters of this game.

This week sees the drivers battling out for spots in the semis, which also means they each win one of the six DiRT 3 mugs that we have as prizes. The final two will be awarded randomly to a pair of the entrants that didn’t make it that far, so keep an eye out to see who won there.

No new competitions this week but, rest assured, the last few months of this year will be getting very hectic.

If it was a bit thin on the ground in the competitions section this week, then the meets have been as busy as ever! Looking to the week ahead, though, I always try to highlight a couple games for you.

Killzone 3 is the headliner this time around. Spooferbarnabas took over running the KZ3 meets a month or two back, and has done a great job gathering interest and getting some solid turn outs to both the vanilla Monday meet, and the DLC only Friday meet. So sign up for some fun and frolics on Helghan, and extend the proud legacy that TSA has with Killzone.

I also want to give a shout to a meet for the Resistance 3 beta, run by our resident Captain Kirk name-alike, Death_In_Flamez. You’ve only got a few hours, since this one’s happening late this afternoon. It’s also disguising itself as Everybody’s Golf, just so you know.

Kirk’s plan is for there to be a weekly meet that focusses on whatever beta is out, about and totally happening at that time. Right now, that’s Resistance 3, but shortly it’ll be Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Battlefield 3, and then whatever other goodies come our way!

Then there’s all the other usual stuff, like MotorStorm: Apocalypse, DiRT 3, Gran Turismo 5… Though, you may have to use the filters for the Meets page, as there’s far too many meets to be able to view them all on one page.

We’ll start off this week’s look into the articles with a bundle of links to, well, bigger bundles of links!

You see, this last week’s news has been completely and utterly dominated by Gamescom, and the news team have been putting in the hours to bring you as broad a coverage of happenings as can be. So run along for the Day 1 Round-Up, oodles and poodles of trailers, and loads more beside, which you can find by using TSA’s catch-up view.

They’ve done a great job bringing all that together, but as ever, you also have a good opportunity to contribute to the site. Kris has asked for his regular little set of member reviews, with this week’s title being Super Meat Boy. Without a full TSA review of its own, because it’s crazily difficult, you get to give the only verdict this site may ever see, so be sure to drop by and give your opinion.

We also have the slightly belated results from Tuffcub’s latest Massive Poll. Head there for lies, damn lies and statistics, but to sum up the massively shocking result, it turns out that about 4 people in the entire universe are happy with needing Online Passes for preowned. Something along those lines anyway. Everyone else is slightly unimpressed.

The forums are rather packed with the usual nonsensical gibberish, this week. You’ve got the standards, like the De-Motivational Posters thread, but lets highlight some other things:

  • Moakesice dug out his discs for the classic RTS Total Annihilation. That games ace, and that’s all I really have to say.
  • Yogdog has also been wondering what you consider to be the Game of The Year up until this point. Register your opinion, so that you can come back in a few months time and slap yourself for forgetting all these awesome games. ADHD for the… Oh! A butterfly!
  • Bunimomike has made something lovely, I’m told. A TSA wallpaper for twitter? I wasn’t paying much attention, mainly to wind him up.

Heading over to the dangerous realms of General Chat*, where strong themes and immature language often prevail:

  • Hanny drew a picture, and so totally wins the internet for the week. Also, other people may have drawn some things in the Artwork thread.
  • Origami Killer’s been camping out in the bushes for a while, with Heedbaw, and took some time out to photograph some wildlife. More than one kind of bird is featured in the pictures of the Photography thread.
  • Last but by no means least, Yogdog wishes to know what your comfort music is. That group that can calm your right down after a stressful day. Personally I like to kick back with Take That’s first album, you know, before they were famous.

With that, I bring a close the the fourth weekly meeting for the Committee of Unilaterally Like Minded Individuals. I’ll be stepping aside from here to let Gazzagb gather together all the tidbits for next weeks agenda, and so…

I’m sorry, I promised myself I wouldn’t cry.

I just… I love you guys and girls! *sob*

*Something about General Chat being entered at your own peril… The sense of humour might not be to your tastes.

  1. My Photography thread sounds quite dirty and dodgy now :L Great round up though, so the Resistance 3 beta meet is late this afternoon, damn can’t do it.

    • haha just noticed the quotes that pop up on each forum link, made me laugh

      • You should check the mouseovers on previous weeks too ;)
Oh, and half sorry, but I found making you and Heed sound mildly pervy amusing, even if you’re not really! ;P

      • Hmmmmm me thinks Saturday isn’t the best day….I’d like some peeps to discuss better times if possible

      • @tef the “with heedbaw” did make me chuckle. I’ll have to go and search for last weeks then.

    • no need to sound pessimistic in any way but that looks like a broken heart! :P

      • It is, because he’s no longer doing the round-up :(

I may still talk to him most days via Skype or zombie slaying, but it’s just not the same dammit! *sobs*

      • haha ok=)
yeahh he is going to be missed!! *sob*

  5. Tef, have you been drinking again? I told you not to work and drink.

We are not that dangerous in the GC. Sure you may lose an arm and a leg and something called a wazoo but there’s cake and tea. :D Also don’t disturb the Elder as that’s the law for some strange reason. :-/

You may see one of my threads in the article next week. ;-)

    • Standard disclaimer, bud. It’s like having to wear a hardhat on a building site. It’s not going to be much help when that grand piano lands on you, but it’s not like you didn’t know it’s a bit dangerous! ;)

      • I only threw a piano at a member once and that was by accident. I was trying to throw it up to the mods club. Bloody mods making us regular forumites do their dirty work. :P

  6. I think I’ve had at least one topic I’ve created on the forums featured each week…. awesome :)
    Danke, teflon!
Things won’t be the same with you not doing these anymore…

  7. I swear that’s not me in the forums banner tef. Closer inspection it could be. My face has been duped!

  8. Have to agree, teffers’ round-ups have been one of the site highlights for me, as well as being a good read, they are pretty damn useful for anything that you might have missed over the previous week or anything currently happening that may have been overlooked ;)
Anyway good luck to gazza in the new role, some mighty large size 24’s to fill there dude :P

  9. Thanks for the competition TSA, can’t wait to don the deus ex t-shirt! Although after my hardcore training sessions on the UFC PT it may be a bit snug aroiund my heaving biceps. *dreams*

  10. I thought i posted a comment on this yesterday – must have forgotten to press submit :s
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the round-up as i got to see some great forum posts which otherwise i might have missed.
