There are few better games for a local co-op-athon around at the moment than Towerfall Ascension, something Blair took advantage of at the weekend. During the week he’s played some Watch Dogs, “the digital trip missions are fun, the rest is boring”, Surgeon Simulator “which is crying out for Move support” and Hohokum “which is quite hard to describe. He was “also underwhelmed by ALONE on iOS despite the fantastic visual style”.
Still on his way down from his Gamescom high as the number of still-to-be-written articles refuses to diminish at an acceptable rate Stefan has still managed to stop typing long enough to play a couple of games.
I’ve had a lovely time with CounterSpy. It’s this really clever mix of 2.5D platforming with stealth elements and lots of murder, all set to the backdrop of a satirised 60s-styled Cold War. I made a quick video about it earlier in the week, but a review won’t show up until next week, now.
Oh, and I hopped onto Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare with a few chums, thanks to the PC version getting a 72 trial thingy. It’s a pretty decent tower defence ‘em up, co-op game, as I said in my review of the Xbox One version, but, hot damn, is that one pretty game with all the settings maxed out on PC! I’m curious to see how it looks on the PS4 version, but I doubt I’ll pick it up unless I have some regular people to play it with.
Despite some doubts sown in his fertile mind by mediocre reviews Jim gave Ground Zeroes a shot and after a slow start found himself enjoying it to the point that he “played through all the missions at least four or fives times, netting myself all the trophies in the process”.
After that there were some brief dalliances with Disney Infinity, Shaun White Snowboarding (I’ll spare the younger members of our audience from Jim’s less than complimentary Anglo Saxon opinion of that game) Disagea 4 and Shogun Total War 2.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist also soaked up a fair chunk of his free time. “In a nutshell, it’s a tight game yet no way near as smooth as Ground Zeroes, locking much of its content away in co-op only missions.”
Dom has been playing Diablo 3 on PS4 for our review summing things up by saying “it’s a fantastic version of the game – and probably utterly life-suckingly addictive”. Which is why I’m currently giving it a wide berth.
I’ve started The Wolf Among Us on PS3 and so far I’m massively impressed – great art direction and music, and the story and characters are enjoyable as well. I’m a little concerned though as my friend bought it at the same time and in the last day has had to reset his PS3 8 times thanks to crashes. I’m hoping it’s just bad luck, as so far I haven’t had any problems at all.
His Xbone was blessed with seeing some gaming too with Max: Curse of Brotherhood, Peggle 2 and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare all getting some screen time. However Dom notes that “to be honest the X1 is finding more of a place as an exercise tool, with Xbox Fitness helpfully filling in the gaps when I cant make it to the gym”.
I’d have thought that knowing that the alternative was pratting about in front of a Kinect sensor that Dom wouldn’t be missing many gym days at all!
Have you played anything of note this week?

It’s true, I’m playing Diablo 3 on PS4 as well and it is truly addictive. So much fun.

Mostly Diablo 3 on PS4. Played through with the new crusader class, currently level 67 and just doing bounties and rifts in adventure mode.
Finished all the surgeries in Surgeon Simulator (except for the alien ones as they’re buggy atm).
Played through the new Trials dlc, the new extreme track is brutal.

How have you found time to get to lvl 67? Did you transfer a save or are you a robot?
I’ve only got to lvl 15 with my wizard vixen…
R1MJAW
I did transfer my save, but the crusader is the new class so he started from level 1. I did however have the help of a Hellfire Ring that I made in D3 on PS3 so the 35% bonus XP helped. It is much faster to level up anyway if you can get large kill streaks.
I was only playing on normal difficulty too so you can level up even faster on the harder difficulties.
I have probably already played for 25+ hours since Tuesday though as it’s such an easy game to lose time in.
I have since hit level 70 with my crusader (and added a few extra paragon levels too).
Jones81
hello mate, cheers for the weapon gifts!, they have def helped. how do you make a hellfire ring?, do you need to find a specific plan?. cheers
R1MJAW
No problem.
The Hellfire ring is a particularly tricky process. I’ll just link you to the wiki as it explains both vanilla D3 and UEE versions.

It’s been all about The Last of Us multiplayer this week, working towards completing both journeys before taking on the single player… So far I’ve completed the first journey and am up to week 4 of my 2nd journey, while bagging all the trophies for the multiplayer DLC. Not bad progress :-)
Other than that, yesterday Youles and I started (and got over half way through!) our co-op run of Sniper Elite 3. Hopefully we’ll finish that tonight and then he’s kindly offered to help me get the last of the multiplayer trophies… He’s a good un is Youles, fair play :-) just the Authentic difficulty to get through for the plat then *gulp*
Lyts1985
We finished co-op last night and managed to get me all the multiplayer ribbons and completed the over watch missions :-) just a solo survivor run and authentic difficulty left…
Big thanks to Youles! Literally couldn’t have done it without his help :-)

Diablo3 on PS4 is very quickly sucking the life from me and will continue to do so for many months to come.
My son’s the happiest lad in the world! He saw the PvZGW game for xbox last year but had to wait until this week for the release on PS3. I pre-ordered for PS3 a couple of weeks ago and it arrived on Thursday this week, one day before official release. He almost cried with joy.

diablo 3 for me, utterly amazing game, its so addictive it should have a heath warning. tried to play that silent hills PT thing and came away feeling completely traumatised, which is odd because nothing happened and i didnt even finish it, its horribly atmospheric right from the start- the game will probably be amazing if this is anything to go by

After I finally got home from my exchange in Denmark I said to myself that I will play and try to finish some games in my PS+ backlog. My targets were Catherine and Dragon’s Dogma. Sadly, I ran out of my yearly subscription a day into sinking my teeth in these games. Kind of sad because I will not renew my PS+ right away. I also have backlog of physical disc games. One of them Rayman Origins on the Vita. So I decided I will focus on that. The game is very colourful and live. Sometime platformers annoy me because I get frustrated if I cannot get everything I want, but I am taking Rayman very casually. I like it when at the end of the stage my Lums are numbered and that syringe (?) fills up :)) Such a good feeling for a ‘completionist’ :p
I still haven’t figured out what the different characters are for but my my the games is a beauty.
ron_mcphatty
It is indeed a beauty :) I never figured out the other characters either, I just played the whole thing as Rayman. Great fun right up until the last level which is utterly, to borrow the word from Jones, brutal. Very satisfying when you finish though. Bu bu ba budubuduba bu bu ba budabuda!
freezebug2
There is no difference between character abilities other than personal aesthetic sprite taste, unlike Legends where specific character selection is required for trophy achievement due to unique ability.
ie. the Viking girl siding down a hill on her shield sledge thingy…
As reiterated though, cracking platformer ;)

This week I finished the wolf among us and bagged the platinum. I enjoyed it so much I’m going to purchase a couple of the fables graphic novels!
Also I managed a little bit of bioshock infinite, burial at sea. Hopefully I’ll manage to get a bit more time with it on Sunday :-)
Kennykazey
The comics are brilliant, especially the first half dozen.
Kennykazey
*the first half dozen volumes.
The rest is probably also great, but I’ve only got to volume 8, and remember the first ones being most interesting.
ron_mcphatty
I really liked the look of Counterspy from Tefs video, the side-on cover shooting reminds me of Rebel Alliance and the rest is like Team Fortress presents Metal Gear, I’m sold! Up until this morning I was playing Proteus and Metrico, which have both been great freebies. I have owned Gravity Rush since July but haven’t made the time for it so that’s next!
Kennykazey
I’ve been playing mostly Diablo 3 on the Xbone, which is one hell of a timesink.
Out of curiosity, I started Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc. Which turned out to be even more chronological drainage than Diablo, somehow.
Then I’ve got some more Pokemon Heart Gold done, some Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen (really cool game, but the visuals haven’t aged well at all) and I got Shantae, the Gameboy Colo(u)r game on 3DS virtual console.
Oh, and a little bit of Megaman 1. Which I’m still absolute rubbish at.
DividSmythe
I’ve also started the wolf among us this week and really had no problem. I’ve got the last chapter to go and I’ve gotta say it’s far better than TWD series in which love too. I’ve also been prepping Lego the hobbit for plat, still not near but making headway. I’ve not had time for much else apart from that.
DividSmythe
I’ve just got platinum in the wolf among us. It’s a thoroughly good game. Even with all the QTE in the last chapter, which is quite hard to fail, trust me is my weakness.
