Community Round-Up: 01/11/14

Pinch, punch, first day of the month! Time is flying by, I can’t believe it’s November already. With it brings some of the most anticipated releases of the year, this years Call of Duty entry is just days away, while there’s also GTA, Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed not far down the road.

I’m sure to have missed a few, so let me know if you’re looking forward to anything else this month as we crack on with this week’s Community Round-Up!

CRU Banner - comps alien

First up, two sets of competition results for you. DeathByNumbers, bunimomike and Kopstoff won themselves the Art of Alien Isolation copies we had, while 5 winners were chosen at random to receive Warlock 2: The Exiled Steam keys.

Fingers crossed we’ll be able to have more competitions again sometime soon!

CRU Banner - meets red dead

For the TSA Meets this week, we’ll be having some of the usual GT6 on Monday, Battlefield 4 on Friday, and Red Dead should be returning on Wednesday.

If you want to play something else, you can add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

CRU Banner - article - sunset

Moving onto the Reviews, and we’ve got loads this week! In descending order, let’s begin with Dom, who loved the “bright and colourful visuals” of Sunset Overdrive and gave it a 9/10. Also earning a 9/10 was Race The Sun, where Aran enjoyed the addictive gameplay and minimalist style, while Peter gave Civilization: Beyond Earth an 8/10.

For those of you that like to shoot things, you can check out Blair’s 8/10 review of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel or perhaps Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops, which Tuffcub says is perfect for Vita with its twin stick gameplay. The other two 8/10 reviews came from Dan and Stefan, who looked at MXGP, complete with “intense racing” and great terrain deformation, while Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones makes “full use of the Wii U’s capabilities”.

Continuing with the sneaking theme, Styx: Master of Shadows received a 7/10 in its review which described it as simply “a hardcore stealth game”, while Lords of the Fallen is at the bottom of the pile this week with a 6/10 from Aran. Though scoreless, Stefan also gave us a comprehensive review of Turtle Beach’s Stealth 500p Headset, while the only Preview this week was from Sam who looked at Kingdom Hearts 2.5 ReMix.

Fans of gamebooks need to check out this weeks Mobile Watch, featuring Caverns of the Snow Witchwhich Jim calls a “solid adaptation”, and you can also see his article about horror games and what scares the bejesus out of the TSA staff. Tuffcub gave his reasons why Jet Car Stunts drives him up the wall, and Blair has a look at the recently released Share Play in PS4 Firmware 2.0.

The Chronicle’s Hot Topics included Halo: The Master Chief Collection, GTA:SA and Toybox Turbos, while Bound By Flame replaces The Last of Us Remastered following it’s impressive 18 ‘Buy It’ votes in the WeViw Verdict.

Finally, there’s Episode 159 of the Podcast and What We Played #179, featuring Borderlands, Sunset Overdrive and The Walking Dead.

Glancing at the Forums briefly, this week we have:

So, that’s it for your Round Up this week. The Austin GP is this weekend, and there’s also plenty of rugby internationals going on, so I’m going to be spending most of my weekend on the sofa (what a surprise!). Let me know what you’re up to this weekend and I’ll be back next time – bye!

  1. I finished Batman Arkham Asylum. I found all Riddler trophies and right now I am trying to complete all the Challenges. I missed the trophy with the two Titan henchmen but I have to finish again on Hard if I want to platinum it. I want to platinum it.
At first I had a feeling of ‘okay, show me what you got, I hear so much praise about you so you better be good’. And slowly by playing I lost this attitude and I absolutely love the game and the mechanics. I feel such a badass when walking in the skin of Batman.

    • To be fair, if I’d managed to make a suit out of Batman’s skin, I’d feel pretty badass too.

      • Think of all the time it would need to take care of all the skin. Creams with Q10 and moisturizers…

        :)
