Community Round-Up: 08/11/14

I know it’s barely November, but after seeing John Lewis’ Christmas Advert the other day, this year’s holiday season has now started in my eyes! So, with just 47 sleeps until Christmas, let’s get started with this week’s Community Round-Up!

CRU Banner - meets red dead

Straight to the TSA Meets and this week, we’ll be having some of the usual GT6 on Monday, Red Dead on Wednesday, and Battlefield 4 on Friday – back with a bang and ready to try out those DLC map packs!

If you want to play something else, you can add your own Meet to the list, provided you have more than 250 TSA Points.

Unsurprisingly, we didn’t have as many Reviews this week compared to the previous one, but at least we did have one of the biggest games of the year: Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. In his 9/10 review for the game, Stefan commended the exoskeleton feature which “really transforms Call of Duty’s usual moveset”, and also had a chat with Peter about the game. [Do watch the videos and sound off in the comments if you have suggestions for improvements, please – Tef]

Also earning a 9/10 was Football Manager 2015, Peter loved the “very significant and quite risky changes” that thankfully paid off, creating the “most immersive, deepest simulation of football ever.” Peter also awarded a 9/10 to next week’s big Xbox One release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a towering bundle of some defining games in the FPS genre.

Dropping a point to a still solid 8/10 were Chariot, a 2D Platformer in which Aran enjoyed the co-op in particular, and Minutes, a game where each level unsurprisingly lasts for one minute. Tuffcub said the little puzzler was perfect for playing on either Vita or PS4, with its crisp visuals. The final review came in the form of The Muppets Movie Adventures for PS Vita, and earned itself a 7/10 from Aran.

As a pseudo review, Stefan got his hands on a PlayStation TV made an unboxing video and then continued to give us his first impressions on the device and how well it handles Remote Play. Meanwhile, it was another quiet for the Previews, with Dom going on an adventure in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker for the Wii U, which certainly looks like it could be good fun to pick up when it releases next year.

On Mobile Watch this week, Jim played Run Sackboy! Run! and Blair explained why he thought République was the perfect game for tablets. The same duo then tackled the PlayStation Vita’s hunt for a Monster Hunter challenger and created a helpful beginner’s guide to The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, respectively.

The Chronicle’s Hot Topics included Firmware Updates and Evolve’s Alpha woes, as Oddworld New ‘n’ Tasty replaces Bound By Flame following its quiet and disappointing ‘Avoid It’ Verdict.

Finally, there’s Episode 160 of the Podcast with the whole gang, and this weeks What We Played #180 featured Destiny, Advanced Warfare & The Master Chief Collection.

Checking out the Forums, let’s see what we’ve got:

  • Forrest wants to know your thoughts on PS+, and if you’d rather have a more stable service, or more AAA titles added?
  • Psdannysan shares his thoughts from the throne, namely that games should always have a decent narrative if he’s to consider playing it.
  • And lastly, Ron has started a video sharing thread, which has so far seen the likes of NfS: Rivals, Advanced Warfare, Sniper Elite, FIFA and The Crew Beta.

There’s plenty for you to watch in the last thread I mentioned, so why not post some of your own videos if you get up to any gaming this weekend? As usual, I’ll be here once again in seven days to bring you your next Round Up. Until then, bye!

  1. I finally uploasded the video in the correct cool style, thanks to Ron :D
Just uploaded two videos of Evil Within on AKUMU difficulty!
Loving the thread and I hope to help everyone out with trophy video clip guide in the future :)

    • Good work on finally embedding a video Del! I watched the second Evil Within one, I’m glad there weren’t any jumpy moments, I hate horrors.

      • There are jumpy scenes but I will not post until after Xmas to avoid spoilers same applies to Alien Isolation will wait.

  2. In addition to the PS Plus thread, I also created one for people that are still playing Destiny – This was so they could throw their name into the pool so there is a place where people can team up to take down the darkness & get through strikes & raids or just find buddies to head into the crucible with. If you are still playing, head in & pop your name down with choice of class, light level & what you would prefer to do when you play/what you would like to achieve.
