Community Round-Up: 07/06/14

This week’s Round-Up is quite a big one, with TSA seeing lots of action on all fronts, from competitions to plenty of pre-E3 news and all the regular features. So, without further ado, let’s get started with this week’s Community Round-Up!

TSA has been alive with competitions this week! Tony kicked things off with the FIFA 14 World Cup Competition, which follows the highly successful Ultimate Team Competition. This competition will begin at the knockout stages and there are 32 places up for grabs (on a first come first served basis) so drop your PSN ID in the comments on the article before 6pm tomorrow to register your interest.

This week also saw the launch of the annual E3 Bingo. If you’ve joined TSA within the last year or aren’t familiar with the event, you basically have to pick 12 options from a list of things that we have suggested may happen at this year’s E3. There’s a points system weighted towards the more riskier options being worth more points, however you need to decide which options you think are likely to occur. Historically, we’ve always had some very good players and some very bad players, and I’ve generally been a part of the later group, but it’s always great fun, so if you want to enter you need to register your choices before 11:59pm tomorrow.

The last competition news from this week was the Plus Points Challenge Stick it to the Man results, with Lieutenant Fatman claiming the top spot in the caption competition. The Leaderboard Update also revealed he is now just one round away from claiming the top prize!

The Meets are looking (relatively) busy which is great to see!

Joining Monday night’s usual GT6 Meet up, Crazy Del is hosting a WipEout 2048 Meet on Tuesday at 8pm for Vita. On Wednesday at 8pm, a group of us will be playing some Red Dead Redemption, anyone is welcome to join and we will be chasing some trophies!

If none of those Meets interest you particularly, feel free to add your own Meet to the list!

CRU Banner - article - homefront

Turning our attention to the Previews, and following the announcement this week, Stefan looked at Homefront: The Revolution, a game I’m very much looking forward to. He then took to the deserts of North Africa in Sniper Elite 3, another game that seems to be shaping up quite nicely.

Jim brought two Reviews to the table this week, starting with the recently released Watch Dogs, which he gave an 8/10, praising the detailed city and game-changing hacking gameplay. The second game he looked at wasn’t anywhere near as good, as Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection was far from perfect, receiving a 4/10.

The last review was Soul Sacrifice Delta, which Dom rather liked. Giving it an 8/10, he described it as a “highly enjoyable and worthwhile title for your Vita”.

Destroy All Humans featured in a Matter of Perspective with Aran, who also looked at Bravada in Indie Focus. Mobile Watch this week looked at Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past, while Remember Me featured in PlayBack, both of which were thanks to Jim.

From the Community articles, Resogun unsurprisingly enjoyed a great WeView Verdict, while Ratchet & Clank: Nexus  is also gathering praise in the comments. Meanwhile on the Chronicle, Battlefield Hardline, July’s PS+ offerings and Future Publishing’s closures featured in Hot Topics.

Looking at the opinion articles, Jim talked more about Hyperdimension Neptunia and it’s real-life parodies, and also looked at the challenge modes in The Last of Us. Greg took to the skies with Ace Combat Infinity while lastly Blair shared his thoughts on dishing out surprises in episodic games.

In the Episode 144 of the Podcast, Peter talked about his space explorations in EVE Online, while Godzilla and Wolfenstein were also talking points. Lastly, What We Played this week featured games such as Watch Dogs and Soul Sacrifice Delta in #159.

Let’s look at what fresh topics have appeared in the Forums this week:

  • Hobby asks could the Sega Spectrum be a new console we’re about to see? E3 is just days away…
  • Some TSA’ers have been earning 2 week PS+ codes thanks to Sony’s online game, and are kindly sharing them here.
  • Ashw92 wants your suggestions for what PS4 game he should get next after finishing Infamous Second Son.

That’s this week’s Round-Up done, I’ll be back tomorrow bringing you the Chronicle as Stefan prepares to jet off to LA with Blair and Peter in tow, so until then, bye!

  1. nice round up for a pretty busy week on TSA what with E3 around the corner…
sorry for crashing your party the other day Youles i didn’t realise i was in party chat…next time i’ll bring a six pack..

  2. A bit off topic but The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has Joshua Topolsky (from The Verge)demonstrating Sony’s Project Morpheus, it’s a lot further advanced than I thought it would be. Hopefully there’ll be a lot more info at E3, it may even be playable, fingers crossed.
