It’s a lovely, rainy summer bank holiday this weekend, which I definitely appreciate as a reason to lounge around and only head out for some essentials. Then again, I do have a ton of stuff to write up from Gamescom, and will make a fresh start this afternoon with The Witcher 3’s upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past. It does look rather good.
But let’s catch up on a bunch of the other news we covered this week.
In the News This Week
OK, so the biggest trailer of the week was the one that went solo outside of the Opening Night Live palaver.

- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is a free upgrade coming next month – DLC goes free as well
- Exodus will launch in April, so here’s another trailer featuring its excellent octopus
- Tides of Annihilation confirms Angela Sant’Albano as its voice acting lead
- Ananta has a new trailer and a release date!
- Rainbow Six Tactics is a top-down turn-based tactics spin-off
- Nofusfall is a dark fantasy action epic from HoYoverse
- LEGO Skylines is a bricky twist for the city builder series

You’d have to be either very brave or very silly to try to launch during Gamescom, but with the crush of September looming, that’s exactly what some studios have had to do. It helps that Resonance is a great game, too!

The bulk of the Gamescom previews are yet to drop, but we thankfully had the chance to preview some games a little early. Dom went hands on with the Gears of War: E-Day single-player and concluded that it is definitely still a Gears of War game, and I felt that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a good evolution of the excellent but polarising original release.
I then shifted gears with a preview of the sensationalised Road Kings, which has you building up your sole trader trucking reputation between over-the-top storm missions. I also puffed out my cheeks for the squirrelly shopkeep adventure Acornia: Mirror Worlds, and wrote up a preview of Warlock from an extended version of its Gamescom trailer.
With the Modern Warfare 4 beta going open to all this weekend, Tuffcub had some thoughts from an older gamer’s perspective.
And we wrap up for the week with What We Played featuring Gears of War E-Day, Lou’s Lagoon & Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
